This trip was to the Elephant nature park. It runs days trips and longer stays if you desire. the par is a charity organisation helping domesticated elephants that have been abused,abandoned or are sick. the thai lady that runs the whole affair 'Lek' has spent her whole life looking after these animals, the park is a testament to her continued efforts.

The park is a place to watch elephants go about their daily life, the mahouts are not allowed to use hooks and there is no riding or getting the elephants to do tricks. you help feed them and bathe them twice which is an awesome experience.

All of the elephants have a sad story and the park educates it's visitors on the domestication techniques used and how tourism can help and hinder these beasts.

If you want an opportunity to enjoy elephants in a near natural environment then this is the place to do it. if you stay on for a week you can join in taking the elephants to the forest where you stay overnight and let the animals graze. they do this once a week.

All ages are catered for although you have to be over 18 to stay for longer periods. Heaps of great photo opportunities to be had, they had babies there when we went and in total about 32 elephants.

The ticket is a bit pricey for the day about $40 but it all goes to a good cause and helps save and preserve a fading giant. less
