The Scots are naturally a fun lot, with a jovial outlook on life and a country filled with history and culture. It is also a place where adventurous travellers hope to be the one who sights the legendary Nessie in
Loch Ness. Sightings are as rare as dinosaurs, however that will not deter the thousands who make the pilgrimage to Loch Ness every year (despite there being loads of other Loch's in Scotland's countryside - Loch Ness is the most famous). A great way to see Loch Ness is on a
tour and you'll be spoilt with your options that leave daily from Edinburgh.
For those who have seen the movie Brave Heart you'll know that Scotland has had a turbulent past with England so be sure not to offend a Scot by calling them English...it's pretty much like calling a Kiwi an Aussie and a Canadian and American...it's just not cool.
Edinburgh is an unbelievable place to visit for a couple of days. It's almost impossible to get lost but one thing we do recommend is taking a walk through the cemetery below the castle. Whilst a little morbid, the tombstones paint a crystal clear picture of how life was a hundred years ago. If hiking is your thing, you'll love this place but we warned, the weather in Scotland can change fast, so make sure you go hiking prepared. The hairy cows (pronounced by the locals as hairy cooos) provide an excellent photo opportunity and you'll find many are called Hamish.
Scotland is a golfers delight, with more golf courses that you can poke a stick at! Scotland is also a great place for a quick weekend road trip and it is hard to become tired of seeing those rolling green hills, usually accompanied by cloudy wet skies which makes you really appreciate the open fires in nearly every bar (tip: Scotland is a cold and wet place so come prepared).
