Madrid & Morocco

Start slideshow
Nick, Emily and I set off on another adventure, this time heading south down to Madrid on our way to joining up with our Morocco tour.  Two days in Madrid where we found a massive lake in the middle of a park and hired a boat and fed the enormous fish.

Arriving in Marrakesh late we got briefed by the tour guide and headed into the square for dinner and a look at the souks of Marrakesh.  Next day we felt the real heat as it hit 42 degrees going over the Atlas Mountains towards the desert.  We headed to M'Hamid where we were to start our safari experience by dragging our mattresses out to sleep under the stars.  The following day we jumped in 4WD's to take us out into the sahara of dunes that we had read so much about.  That was an awesome trip in the 4WD's and rough as guts.  We climbed the dunes and watched the sunset over the scorching Sahara.  We ate and stayed in desert tents again but again it was too hot to sleep inside and out the mattresses came again to sleep under the stars.  Just beautiful.  We headed back to M'Hamid for some camel trekking which was halarious as Nick and camels didn't go well together and he was almost bucked off his little camel.  Then he changed camels only for Emily's camels to bite Nick's camel on the balls twice. ha ha ha.  They eventually got back to camp.

We then headed west to Agadir which is the surfing spot of Morocco and really windy.  Absolutely beautiful and there was some type of summer festival on at the time so everyone in Agadir was out partying.  We then headed north up the coast to Essaouira which was the cutest village that we came across. It was a little seaside walled fishing village that was covered in little markets and treasure troves.  We bought a Moroccan table and had some beautiful fresh seafood.

Then we were back up to Marrakesh for a day and back to Madrid for a few days.  We did a walking tour and saw the sites of Madrid, went for tapas and just relaxed a bit.  A great trip all round.

52 days from this point to Tombouctou on a camel!! At our hotel in M'Hamid it was far too hot to sleep in our mud tents so we all slept out on the sand under the stars, it was beautiful except for the 3 minute sand storm in the middle of the night.
Our hotel at M
Our hotel at M'Hamid had a pool though which really saved us. I think we all would have been hospitalised if it wasn't for this pool. It was hitting 52 degrees by this stage.
