Jordon - Kumuka Tour

Start slideshow
20 May 2006  We crossed the boarder into Jordon. Spend the night in Amman.  Was fiona irish girls last night so ended up being a big night.  We just went to dinner then went back to the hotel and sat on the roof top and drank over looking a chrurch and a mosquo!!  Was a good night.  The hotel was a nice hotel aswell and nice to have a shower!!

We did get ripped off by the cab drivers.  They did have metors but the meter said 8.20.  We thought it was 8 dinan and 20 cents.  But later people told us is was .820!!!  So we paid 8
times as much.  No one told us and I think the cab driver went away happy.  But before anyone told us we did it TWICE!!! So 2 very happy taxi drivers!!  SILLY TOURIST!! Live and learn I guess!

Had 1 night in Amman and then made our way to the Dead Sea.  It was amazing   and the floating is just unreal.  The salt does hurt a little bit.  You do not put your head under as it will sting your eyes and stuff.  There is also the Dead sea mud that is supose to work mircules and heal things. So I rubed some on my right hip and chest and telepathic it to Dad so hopefully will heal soon for Dad!!!

Fiona come to the Dead sea but then left for Dublin.  Am going to miss her as she was my drinking buddy and a good laugh!!

We stayed in a hotel in Wadi Musa.  Its a very nice hotel with great internet.  We have 2 nights here and  then off to Wadi Rum and back to camping!

Went to Petra.  What everyone says about the place is right.  Its just a mind blowing fabulous place.   Spend  the day like a
mountain goat going up and down tracks ... seeing which place is the best view.  The first thing you see when you enter is the Treasure which is in the movie 'Indian Jones and The Last Crusades' where they find the Holy Grail.  I did look for the oley Grail but no such luck!!!!  So not going to live forever!!

Then we walked up to the Monastery which is 900 hundreds steps to the top.  Yes no typo there 900 steps.  We did have the option of taking a donkey but I felt sorry for the donkey so did it myself ... yep still extremely unfit after my 2 years parting in London!!!  I certainly did feel it however I did make it.

Then Dave (Aussie guy from the tour) and I decided we wanted the see the Treasure from the top of the mountain looking down on it!!  Yes we were the only 2 silly people in the tour to do it in the middle of the day .. hottest time with even more steps and much stepper!!!  But again I surprised myself and made it (even though typing this email is hurting my finger tips!!)  It was worth the pain as the view was the best!!    But we did not learn and did not stop there we also did another trek to the top of the  sacrificial where they use to sacarfic people and animal!!  So more steps and more pain for poor megs.    But I made it
again.  After that I beg Dave for us to go back to the hotel and stay by the pool!!! We did manage to see all of Petra in the day I am sure there was loads more but I think we cover it.  I Highly recommended to EVERYONE!!! Even the walking!!

After Wadi Musa we went to Wadi Rum and did a 4 hour 4
wheel drive thru the Desert where Lawerence of the
Arabian explored.  It was a fun day. Thru the desert we stopped at where Lawerence showed - all it was was a pipe with a bit of water, his how which was just a pile of bicks stacked together.  I think they just put these things there so tourist can see them.  We stop off at Bedowins place.  They live in the desert and we had tea with the family.  The girls could not come out as other men are not allowed to see them.  It was very interesting.  We also climbed a HUGE sand dune and had a race down it - I think I come about 5th.

We then camped out in the Desert with no facitilitys and played desert cricket.  Slept out under the stars and was a nice clear night.  We watched the sunset which was beautiful. I did not get much sleep thru the night, do not know why. Watched the sunrise as I was awake.  Packed up 'frosty and started our journey to Egypt.

Jordon was another amazing place.  Was so impressed with Petra it was one of my favorite days in Jordon.  The whole place is just spectacular and fascinating,
