Day 2 in Muscat I was talking about what would happen if the polar ice caps melted. I was talking about how Muscat would be under water. I should have kept my mouth shut!!
The ice caps didn't melt but it did flood. It rained overnight and throughout most of the following day and to my horror I discovered that the buildings in Muscat are not waterproof. We had water EVERYWHERE. I spent most of the day mopping up the water that had seeped in through every available crack. From the apartment, I didn't realise how bad it was but as the pictures suggest it was pretty bad. Chris had to come home early as they were worried about the staff not being able to get back to their homes. It was flooded for days afterwards! There was a lot of damage, not at our apartment, the worst that we dealt with was power loss and the bottom of our cupboards and doors have swelled. Cars were swept away. They had to close the highway. It was amazing to see in the Desert. It was something I never ever expected to happen in a million years. Not many people can say that they have seen a flood in the Desert.
