Well we have set off on our train trip of Europe. We landed in Rome and did sightseeing around Rome for 6 days. We saw all the usual sights, sought out a flea market.. of course, found the cuppiccun monks tomes, and visited St Peters Basilica which Em managed to que for to get in and went around the loop of things to see without realising that she hadn't gone into the Basilica and would have had to que again...halarious. I did lots of afternoon walking and found lots of things that I hadn't known was there the last time I was in Rome, like the massive park above Villa de Medici which was incredible. It has a viewing point that looks over the whole of Rome, just above Piazza del Popollo.
We then were travelling to Pisa and Florence on the one day that the Italians decided to have a full transport strike, but 1 or 2 trains were still running. Of over 50 trains 2 left Termini and ours was one of them which we could not believe. Entirely luck and we have been dumbfounded ever since as we managed to get from Pisa to Florence as well without a hitch. As Em said we took the 'leaning train from Pisa' to Florence. he he he as it was a tilt train.
In Florence we have been doing a lot of walking just wandering around the shopping streets and checked out Ponte Veccio which Em thought all her Christmas's had come at once seeing as the whole bridge was lined with jewellery stores. She had a field day. We again found the leather markets of Florence and got another scarf and other goodies. Bag is not too heavy yet.
We hit Venice and jumped straight on the ferries out to the islands as we were both keen to see Murano where the glass factories are. Absolutely stunning. Bag is quite a bit heavier now. Burano was a little treasure that we didn't expect with it's brightly coloured houses and little canals, a mini Venice. Then we did some sightseeing around Venice and visited Peggy Guggenheim's gallery which was amazing. So many masters in one spot. Love Venice and we were both really sad to leave.
Onto Vienna in our overnight sleeper carriage which was fun. Very different for us both, but very funny. Vienna was really beautiful and the architecture was different again to anywhere we had been. We went to the Mozart Museum and I did a few walking tours. I found the Schloss which overlooks the whole of Vienna and also caught a bus up to Karlsbergenstrasse (need to check name) which has views to Slovakia, and then I walked down through the wineries and back to the Nusselberg. We found the Prater which has a funfair in the middle of Vienna, a weird sensation but good laughs.
Then we were onto Prague which has been absolutely beautiful as usual. I am a big fan of Czech food. We walked around the old town square and out to the bridge. Will update more as we do it.
