Well a weekend in Bruge was just what we needed before we sent Mum and Dad back to Australia. This was Nick's trip for hitting 3 hundreds in cricket this season. I've always said I would take him away for the weekend and he waits until we are in Europe to cash it. Does this sound like Nick ...finest chocolate in the world, fresh beer made in the centre of Bruge and waffles. He was in heaven.
We hired a car and took our first steps across the English Channel on a ferry. They are luxury too. Don't know why people go on the chunnel, it was a fraction of the price and had a theatre room, playstation room, restaurant. The drive from Dunkerque to Bruge only took around 45 mins but all the language was completely foreign which was a laugh. Nick's first time driving on the wrong side of the road.
Oh my gosh, did we eat chocolate. We visited the Museum of Chocolate and had live demonstration of hand making chocolate, then went to The Half Moon which is the last beer factory to be still brewing in the centre of the small town of Bruge. Went out to dinner and experienced some amazing food, which you all know that is the real reason that I am in Europe for is food tasting. I definitely did my share and more. Scattered through out the day was a waffle on every corner, fresh made in front of you...mmmmm.
Second day we decided to really let our hair down in the chocolate department. Jon bought 3 1/2 kilos of handmade chocolate, Mum and Dad bought a kilo and Nick and I bought a kilo. Not a lot of it made it back to England. It was devine. Brought some back for the house of course. We also did a cruise along the main canal's of Bruge. For those who don't know Bruge is a smaller version of Venice, with the canals being a large part of the town. It is just stunning, you will have to see for yourself.
