Berlin

WOW.  What an experience. This place has seen so much of the history of the world in the last 100 years thats there is enough for 1000 years! We had to say goodbye to our other travelling companion in Berlin as Alita bid us farewell for the sunny side of Thailand. We have had a great time with Ted and Alita that it was very sad to say goodbye to Alita. But the travelling must go on so we hit Berlin hard! This place is amazing. Where do you start? I think with the East German stop and go men. They are awesome! The Brandenburg gate is fantastic and just down from there nw is the touching Jewish Memorial. It is for your own interpretation and no matter how many photos we took is still didn't do it justice.

Ofcourse we had to go and visit the important parts of the late Berlin Wall. Not much is left of Checkpoint Charlie but to read and understand the tension certainly made me realise how lucjy we are at home. We visited the East Side Gallery which is still the longest standing part of the wall and is decorated many different ways. It still amazes me that this town was seperated the way it was for forty years.

We also had a look at one of the most impressive museums we have seen. The Pergamonmuseum had structures that the Germans had taken from around the world. We finally got to see the Greek Temple from Pergamon that was in Turkey. It was truely amazing along with the Astonishing Ishtar gate from Babylon. Berlin was everything and more.

You really could loose people in this memorial as the rows just don't end and you see people popping in and out of your row but one turn and you can't find them
We waited in line for an hour to go to the top of the dome without realising that this was the dome that the Nazi's set on fire as blamed their opposing political party, hence getting an emergency decree signed for Hilter to have absolute power.
