Portugal 1

Start slideshow
Portugal well where do we start.  Had the most amazing time in Porto which is a small town on the west coast, very hilly and the home of the Douro Valley Port Estates which are some of the oldest wineries in the world.  We were shocked and happy to see that there were 52 varieties of port that were available to taste all within a 30 minutes radius and all with the most stunning views.  It was always going to be dangerous for us.  We only managed to do 2 wineries a day and tasted 10 different ports.  Both sets of parents would have in heaven and ashamed of our results.  Dad we almost bought a barrel.  All port tasting is free and Nick and I learnt so much about port.  I didn't even know that there was a white port and now it is top of my list.  Needless to say we had to construct a small cardboard cellar under the table of the motorhome to accommodate.  We did see other things in Porto and could have stayed there a month or two.  We tried the local cruisines and Nick ordered Tripe without knowing what it was, which made for an interesting and funny dinner.

On the way down through Portugal we stopped at a Roman ruin of an ancient civilisation and our first chapel of bones in Evora...arrgghh and then spent a little time down in the Algarves, which are the beaches that run along the bottom of Portugal and are very lovely.  Relaxed some more before roaming back over the border into Spain.  Happy days.
