Well just to prove its not all fun and games the latest part of our trip was non stop travelling!!!!!
Our flight left L.A and 13 hours and 3 flights later we landed in Quito, equador and our South American adventure began!
The first thing that was very obvious was how little if any english that anyone could speak! even though we were warned about this it was a bit of a shock!!!!!
So it was out with the spanish phrase book that hadnŽt been opened since buying it in bangkok!!!
We did find a nice hostel for our first nights acommodation but trying to book a bus for the next day was a 4 hour job! but worse of all was ordering food which was purely a guessing game!!!
Oh well next morning and it was up early for our first 12 hour bus journey down to the world famous city of machala! more mayhem trying to get a room and we found out a double bed over here is considered a matrimoanial room so when we handed over our passports we were given an odd look from the recepionist!!!!!
Since we arrived after dark it was a quick bite to eat in the hotel restaurant where all that was available on the menu was meat then off to bed!!!
up bright and early again for a 4 hour bus journey accross the border into peru!
We somehow managed to get all the right forms filled out at the border and caught a taxi to catch up with our bus that aparently doesnŽt wait for you!
We arrived in tumbes a strange border town where we managed to order some more deep fried food! our favourite! a common theme was happening with all the food we ordered no matter what it was called on the menu!
Morning arrived and as usual it was another early start for a 5 hour bus journey! i think we read more books over these 4 days than we had our entire lives!
We arrived in a little town called Piura where for a change we had 24 hours before our next bus! We did manage to choose some nice food for a change as our spanish was definately improving! the only people we could speak english to was each other!
24 hours later and it was time for our last bus trip for the time being! but since it was a 16 hour bus trip we splashed out and picked a fancy bus where we sat in first class!!! this set us back a whopping 25 quid each!!!!!!
we must admit it was well worth it as we arrived in Lima first thing the next morning feeling alot better than if it had been the usual rubbish weŽd sat on!
After spending the day wandering about lima which we were surprised to find very nice it was off to bed to catch a flight in the morning to Rio where the fun of south america should really start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
