If you are the owner of a travel business you probably have some very particular views about the thousands of comments being posted worldwide every day about businesses like yours.

Whether they are real or fake doesn't seem to bother many websites who capture this.  After all, for them it's all about a numbers game.  He he gets the most wins right?  Wrong...well we think so.

The number of websites popping up claiming to give you the truth, all written by real travellers etc grows every day.  How many of these websites actually consider what is being said - if it is infact real - or whether it's just a traveller getting back at the hostel for kicking them out for being too noisy or your competitor down the road jealous of your high occupancy/bums of seats.

I applaud the recent moves by Virgin Atlantic who sacked 13 flight attendants for criticising the airline's flight safety standards. Those who were sacked had also reportedly described its passengers as "chavs" on Facebook.

Virgin are right.... that is totally inappropriate behaviour....what right do the employees have to express their personal, biased views about the company.  Some might say that's limiting an employee's right to free speech.  I don't see it that way - if employees have an issue take it up with the appropriate Aviation Safety authority or better yet the company Safetey officials.  Social networking, blogs etc gives you the ability to make comment - but it doesn't give you the right to act as judge and jury.

Do those 13 staff know the cost and damage they have inflicted on Virgin's brand?  Do they care?  Who knows.  All I can say, the reason i chose to fly Virgin Atlantic over British Airways was because their service and product was first class and I hope Mr Branson continues to innovate when others simply stagnate or play follow the leader ie Virgin.

The point of this blog is to simply outline, that not all User Generated Content is good.  If the truth was really unbiased - then it's warranted.  However in bugbitten.com's case we choose to apply the methodology if a particular company has no recommendations from other travellers it a. Does not believe in capturing UGC or b. They aren't being recommended by travellers which indicates a poor product/service.

Only those products/services are being recommended appear at the top of the search results because we believe in telling travellers where to go and what to do...not what they shouldn't be doing.
