John Nugus's travel recommendations

Machu Picchu, Peru recommendation
My brother Pete and myself did the Inca Trail in Peru, and had a great time... we went in December, which is the rainy season and we got lucky! Minimal rain, and less chaos on the trails (less crowded). A tip for those of you looking for other options for hiking in the area: there are lots of other trails to hike in the area, which are even more off the beaten track, less crowded and less expensive. (You still need a guide, and you'll still need to provide customary tips for everything). The peo...
Buenos Aires, Argentina recommendation
I went to visit my brother who was living and studying in Buenos Aires at the time. Palermo is definately the suburb I'd recommend for going out at night... great bars, restaurants, crowd vibes and the most expensive beers are about a pound. Quite a few of the bar staff etc can speak enough English to get you out of trouble, but more opportunities come knocking with a few Spanish phrases up your sleeve....
London, England recommendation
If you've got a few hours or a day up your sleeve, Hampstead is an awesome part of London to check out. Head there on the northern line (Edgware branch) tube to Hampstead or Belsize Park, on the Silverlink overland train to Hampstead Heath, or on a bus (ie, the 24). Hampstead Heath is a must if the weather's good... it's a massive parkland with green open spaces and tucked away areas for picnics, birthday parties, long walks, touch footy and jogs. Parliament Hill in the heath is London's highe...
Newcastle upon Tyne, England recommendation
The 84 mile Hadrian's Wall path has now been opened up for cyclists and also made easier for walkers. The trail is along the English/ Scottish border and takes in the most stunning scenery. It starts in Newcastle and finishes just west of Carlisle. There are plenty of pubs and B and Bs on the way, so there's no excuses for letting a bit of hiking get in the way of a social time with mates. It takes six to nine days on foot at a steady pace (it's not particularly mountainous, despite the odd ris...
Llangollen, Wales recommendation
I did the 177 mile Offa's Dyke walk along the English-Welsh border, and loved it! It was pretty tough, but don't let that put you off...many people opt to do it in stages over a year or so rather than in one hit. Accommodation is via campsites or the occasional hotel... I recommend bringing a tent as there're stretches without accommodation. (I also recommend getting your mate to carry it for you!)... Llangollen is a beautiful town along the way, although it's a shame to mention one place on ...
