Clare and I had to delay our summer holiday to Corfu earlier this year so we were really looking forward to it by the time it came around. The first of our 4 days was not ideal in terms of the weather - there were waves of thunderstorms batter the island all day. Still, the temp was above the 20 mark, so we made the most of it by driving around the island to get a bit of an idea of the place. The weather had cleared up by the 2nd day, so we hired bikes and went cycling to Corfu Town. The next day was much like the previous, but this time we cycled right down to the southern tip of the island, a 50km round trip up and down hills. Not everyone's idea of a holiday, but we saw some awesome scenery that you'd be unlikely to get to by car. On the final day, by now in perfect sunny weather, we took a ferry trip to the resort town of Saranda on the mysterious former communist country of Albania. Once in Albania, we went for a guided tour of Butrint, an excellently preserved citadel that had four historic eras starting in with the Greeks in BC times... After the trip, we returned to Corfu and drove into the mountains for dinner in a picture perfect Greek mountain village.
