Reykjavik Highlights (Edit)

Iceland, what a destination!  Iceland is one of those places you dream of visiting, but because of it's geographical location, it's not exactly a destination you pass in your travels.

If your flight is arriving late in Reykjavik don't be nervous just catch the airport bus in to the city.   The Guesthouse Isafold has been recommended (open 24 hours, great accommodation, both homely and really close to the main city) and apparently the owner will come out and greety you at this ungodly hour.  Becareful to check the location of your hotels and guesthouses as there seems to be alot a little bit out of the city.

If you have 3 days in the city try spending it soaking up the atmosphere and nightlife.  If coming Autumn or winer it gets pretty cold, but the bars were warm!

Suggested this to do are to take a tour out to a farm and go 'tölting' - horseriding Iceland style (roding over the lavafields and the nature). Take a bus out to the world's largest geyser, Strokkur which is fantastic. It's pretty much been left alone in its natural form and erupts every few minutes (some great photo opportunities!)

Keen for more adventure?  Go to Gullfoss, a waterfall with magnitude! Again, it is freezing, but definitely worth the frost bite!   Or check out the Aurora Borealis.

No trip to Reykjavik would be completed with visiting to the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is special. It's magical. It's worth a trip to Iceland to see it!

The Blue Lagoon is a natural geothermal vent, it's kind of like a big natural swimming pool in the ground that is naturally heated at 40 degrees celsius. When in the vent there is sulphur mud from the ground that you can use as a facial - delightful!! However I recommend you not put this mud in your hair.....those who think it would be like the ultimate treatment....but it can take weeks of showers until it fells good again!!!

I can also advise people that when arriving at The Blue Lagoon you get a little tour of the area and the bathrooms where they advise you that naked showers before and after bathing is compolsory - and that is communal! Can be a shock if it's not something you're use to! For those who like not to be seen in the raw wait until the 'naked shower guard' is looking in the other direction and hop in.

This place is recommended to all (and they have some great souveniers....!) just be careful when ordering drinks in a bar.....my friend and I ordered two beers and the bill came to roughly 2000 icelandic kroners, which is like AUD $40.
