Milan is must see destination and one that can be done in a weekend, for those short on time. The two main attractions is the fantastic duomo (simply the most stunning cathedral in Europe) and the fortress, with its expansive parklands - perfect for a picnic or a quiet stroll.

Milan is also blessed in having the best public transport network I have come across; with a metro (underground/tube), trams, buses and trains. The great thing about this is you can stay a little further out and enjoy cheaper accommodation, and yet still be able to get to the city centre in 15 minutes. We stayed in Hotel Vienna which is near the Lambrate metro stop, and had enjoyable stay there. For those doing a long trip, the advantage of this location is that you have plenty of laundry places, internet points and supermarkets to get yourself sorted for the next leg of your trip.

Milan is one of my favourite cities and one I recommend to everyone. Whether you like history and culture, a trendy vibe and fashion labels, or a relaxed scenic city - Milan can offer it all.
