Cape Town travel guide and tourist information

Cape Town Highlights (Edit)

During our trip of South Africa we decided to do a dive with the Great White Sharks.  We did this tour with Unreal dives, but there are a few different operators who do this tour out of Cape Town.

The Tour picks you up from your hotel in Cape Town and you pre-arrange this with them.  Its an early start - so minimize the amount of drinks you have the night before is my advice.  Once everyone is picked up they drive out to Hermanus and then beyond there to another small town that I did not catch the name of.

You have breakfast at their shop/restaurant and sign the 'danger waiver' before heading to the harbour and getting on the boat.  The day that we went the swells were rather large - sit outside so you don't get seasick from the rocking and the engine fumes is my advice. Definitely bring a hoodie and warm socks for this part of the trip.

Our group had about 16 people in it, various nationalities and everyone on it was probably about 22 - 32 years old.

We dropped anchor after about 40 minutes near to wear the sharks like to go and waited, and waited, and waited..... they can not guaruntee that a shark will come and you can see one from the cage...and after all that waiting there was no shark and it was time to go   BUT WAIT!  Just as we were about to leave a 2-3 metre great white showed up!  Unfortunately we weren't able to get in the water - but it was amazing to be that close to it.

Unreal Dives can't guarantee that you will see a shark as they are wild animals, however they did provide vouchers for everyone on the boat that day to come back.

My advice is to do this tour early on in your time in Cape Town - that way if you don't see a shark on your first time - you can go back before you leave.
