Wow....what a cool place!

If you're like me a not a fan of capital cities and you're in Albania, this is the place to go!

Grab a bus out of Tirana and south into the Balkins to a city called Berat. It's one of the oldest and most picturesque in Albania! The city has been inhabited since the Bronze Ages. There's a castle and loads of ruins of churches and mosques. In 2008 it became a UNESCO Heritage Site.

Also a new hostel here (Berat Hostel). It's owned by a British guy from Newcastle (Scott) and he has done wonders with the place. He's very conscientious and extremely proud of his hostel.....no wonder it rocks! Amazing views, very clean. 10 per night (includes breakfast). For the 3 bus ride (3.5 hours) out of Tirana it's well worth the time spent here.

Thoroughly recommend!
