This guide is in fact about trekking on Isla Navarino and visiting Puerto Williams, the true furthest south town of any size in the world, despite what Ushuaia would have us believe.

Now, getting to and from Isla Navarino is not cheap: a 45min speed boat ride from Ushuaia costs $120 and the ferry from Punta Arenas costs $145, but, if you like trekking in places where there are no people and the scenery is amazing then this is the place for you.

Puerto Williams is not really up to much: a sleepy navy/fishing town on the north side of the island facing out on to the Beagle channel. the hotels are relativly expensive ($20 per person per night) but there is a free camp ground only a five miunte walk away.

The trek, El Circuito Dientes de Navarino (the Teeth of Navarino Circuit) is amazing, by far the best i have done in south america. It lasts five days and take you through snow covered passes, beneath massive mountians and through valleys filled with beaver dams. the going is pretty tough but the route is reasonably well marked.

any one thinking of doing this should deffinitly. it is well worth the money and the boat ride to Punta Arenas is spectacular.
