Melbourne is a really cool city full of really eclectic bars and pubs. I highly recommend a place called the Croft institute in the CBD where it looks like you have stepped into a science lab (but be warned- drinks are not cheap...the cocktails start from about $10) Most places are easily accessible by public transport as melbourne is serviced by trams, trains and buses. I have certainly enjoyed my time here!
