Was this useful? Getting into the city from the bus station is dead easy and should cost less then 1 ringgit for wherever you are staying. The locals are very friendly and will help you find the right bus. Definitely recommend eating at any of the local restaurants. If its hard to communicate with the proprieter, the better the food, we found. Shopping for everyday stuff at the local stores is good fun too. We had a really difficult time finding toilet paper (you most likely wont get any from your guest house!) - ask at the small stores for 'tissue' and you should come right! Navigating around the center of town is easy on foot and you can take in the real local feel. We especially enjoyed the Museum of Architecture which shows traditional styles from the major ethnic groups in Malaysia including Malay, Chinese, Indian and European and is full of scale models. Its located near the Independance Memorial and A'Famosa (the fort), both of which are also a good visit, along with a number of other historical and cultural museums. With such a diverse cultural mix Melaka really is a city of history! And dont forget to say thank you - Terima kasih! Enjoy! |
