Whilst travelling around Europe visiting the big cities of each country you should venture a little of track to see the smaller places that are of great significance.

Auschwitz is undoubtedly one of those places. For the locals it is unfortunately known for one of the most inhuman world events that has ever occurred.

My advice to anyone who wishes to visit the site is to attend alone and not with a tour group or even with your closest friends. It is a place where you don't want to be distracted by silly side jokes or casual chit chat.

To immerse yourself into what occurred there is very difficult while walking around, as on a first glance it resembles an old school camp site. It is not until you see photos of the past that the reality hits you and you can compare what has occurred.

Daily bus transfers or trains run from the neighboring city of Krakow and a whole day is needed to visit both camps.
