Autumn in New Springville, a community in Staten Island, one of thefive boroughs that comprise New York City, offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate what the fall foliage in a countrified setting. Simply go to Forest Hill Road and Platinum Avenue and look for the entrance to the yellow trail of the Greenbelt, one of America's largest parks. Within five or 10 minutes you will experience views that make you feel you are experiencing the fall colors in New England. Having once lived in this area, I was surprised at the beauty that can be found in this location. And if you continue to walk on the yellow trail you will eventually come across other trails in the Greenbelt that can turn your casual walk into an hours-long hike. With so much to do in Manhattan, most people don't consider Staten Island as great place to visit on a crisp autumn day, but for a change of pace, it is certainly worth your time. To get to New Springville, take the 17X express bus and get off at Marsh Avenue, just before the turn onto Platinum. (It's about an hour-long bus ride from Manhatten.) The Yellow trail is only a five-minute walk from there on Forest Hill Road. To make your experience all the more fun, return to New York City by inquiring about a local bus that takes you to the Staten Island Ferry from points just outside the Greenbelt. The Staten Island Ferry is free and you will get a great view of the Statue of Libery.
