Contiki: jennycalleja's recommendation

We did a contiki tour - 16 days, 10 countries through Europe in 2006.

The Group
We expected it to be a boozy tour full of singles but there were actually around 10 couples on our tour! This meant it wasn't quite the party tour we were planning on but we still had a blast and met some great people. Most people were from 19 - 35 and mainly from Oz, America, Canada & South Africa. I'd say about 70% were aussie though.

Tour Guides
It was a great tour with an awesome tour guide who had a lot of experience and plenty of knowledge about the destinations. We learnt however that not all tour groups are so lucky so it can be hit and miss with your tour guides unfortunately.

Packing
Before leaving everyone who had travelled told us to use back packs. Thinking we knew better, we opted for suitcases thinking that after having picked the hotel tour, we would be going to hotels and it wouldn't be a problem. We were wrong! Some hotels didn't have escalators meaning we lugged the suitcases up 5 flights of stairs, and drag the case all over. So best tips are...

1. Bring a back pack where possible
2. Pack light. You end up wearing the same things over and over and the majority are not glam on these tours
3. Pack comfy clothes, shoes. Make sure they are practical ie. don't crinkle easily etc as you won't be ironing.
4. Don't leave with a full suitcase/backpack. Leave some room so you can fit stuff you buy. Also, if you have a big night and haven't packed your case the night before, you won't have time to strategically pack all your stuff every morning with a hangover!

Highlights
My Pilatus - what an awesome place. Somewhere I don't think I would have organised to stay at myself if travelling independently.

Do It.... if you don't want the hassle of having to sort out your days, accommodation, what to see etc. Great for first time travellers as guides generally tell you safety and security info & give handy tips.
