This weekend Mrs Bobcat and I went off to Ireland for a pilgrimage to her ancestral stompin' ground, Donovan Castle or should I say Caislean Ui Donnabhain ... mmm sounds like whisky! So whilst that was the main storyline, I had a bit of a sub-plot running, just to keep her on her toes. The Friday night saw us fly into Cork just in time to see all the restaurants shut (10pm!). Not to be deterred we scoured the town to find a restaurant that still had a functioning kitchen. Having been turned down by many establishments, we nearly had to resort to Burger King, but happened upon a nice little cafe just before we gave up. Then it was on to a few drinks out on the town. On Saturday morning I had an important task to perform whilst remaining undetected by the oblivious Mrs Bobcat... I had to put a call into her Dad, Wayne in NZ to see if he may be persuaded to relinquish ownership of his young princess in exchange for a flock of 15 to 17 Moroccan mountain goats. But try as I may to shake Madam, she remained stubbornly by my side. Eventually she agreed that she should finish off a bit of work before we went on to enjoy the rest of our trip. So I put in the call and managed to exchange the young Princess for the flock of goats. Wayne's overwhelming message was "now you know what you're getting yourself into here don't you?!" This scared me, but I pretended the answer was yes and headed straight for the Pub. The landlord was kind enough to put the footy on and I saw the last half of the Hawks smashing the Bombers as I downed 2 pints of excellent black stuff. Ahhh yes I was in heaven.
Anyway, then it was off to Caislean Ui Donnabhain at which point I posed a certain bumbling question to a certain Princess. She looked at me quizzically, so I pulled out a diamond ring and so it was sealed. I am now engaged to the girl of my dreams.
Then it was off to Killarney to stay at the excellent and luxurious Killarney park Hotel and drink lots of champagne. Bundalls thanks for the tip on the hotel, it was awesome!
The next day, after a very slow start, it was off to the Dingle peninsula for a drive. Awesome stuff! Damn... I'm engaged!
