CN Tower
Toronto, Canadaattractions
Standing at 553 metres, the CN Tower dominates Toronto's skyline in a way that still manages to feel genuinely impressive when you're standing beneath it. For over two decades it held the title of world's tallest freestanding structure, and even now, long after losing that record, it remains the undisputed centrepiece of the city's waterfront. Located in the Entertainment District near the Rogers Centre and a short walk from Union Station, it's easy to reach and hard to miss.
The main draw is the LookOut Level at 346 metres, where floor-to-ceiling windows give you sweeping views across Lake Ontario and deep into the city grid below. The Glass Floor section sits here too — stepping out over it produces that stomach-dropping moment that most visitors queue up for. Above that, the SkyPod at 447 metres offers an even more exposed vantage point for an additional fee, though on overcast days the difference in visibility barely justifies the cost. Tickets start around CAD $45 for adults, with online booking recommended to avoid long waits at the counter.
The EdgeWalk — a hands-free walk along the outer ledge of the main pod — is one of the more genuinely thrilling things you can do in the city, though it requires a separate booking and weather can cause last-minute cancellations, so plan accordingly. Inside, the 360 Restaurant rotates slowly as you dine, which sounds gimmicky but actually makes for a surprisingly enjoyable meal if you time it for sunset.
Crowds peak between late June and early September, with the longest waits typically mid-morning on weekends. Visit on a weekday morning in spring or early autumn for clearer skies, shorter queues, and the best light over the lake.
