The RAVeL network threads through Wallonia on old railway rights-of-way, so the gradients are almost laughably gentle — tunnels blasted straight through hillsides, viaducts carrying you over river valleys without a single switchback. Riding the Liège-to-Namur corridor, you'll spend most of your time following the Ourthe and Meuse rivers on smooth, well-maintained tarmac that keeps tyre punctures rare and average daily distances genuinely achievable.

Expect to cover 60–90 kilometres per day without drama, which makes a loose five-to-seven-day itinerary feel relaxed rather than rushed.

Day-to-day the scenery shifts from post-industrial Liège — brick chimneys, canal barges, gritty canal-side cafes — into increasingly dense Ardennes forest before the river valley opens out toward Namur's fortress citadel. The route is largely separated from motor traffic, so overtaking lorries aren't a concern, though shared paths through towns mean you'll weave around pedestrians and dog-walkers on weekend mornings.

Riding west, from Liège toward Namur, keeps the prevailing wind broadly at your back in most seasons and deposits you at Namur with easy onward rail connections.

Bike hire is available in Liège and Namur, and several hire stations dot the route itself, which makes one-way logistics straightforward. Accommodation ranges from roadside B&Bs and gites ruraux to the occasional campsite tucked behind tree cover — book ahead from June onward, as Belgian cycle-tourers claim the best beds early.

Water points are reliable, and small Walloon villages tend to produce good abbey beer and hearty carbonnade if you time your stops well.

April through October suits most riders; anyone nervous of rain should lean toward late May or early September when forest colours are still vivid and crowds thin noticeably.
