What to expect

Your guide meets you in Assisi and takes you to each basilica in turn, providing historical and spiritual context at each stop. You'll hear about the lives of Francis and Clare, their relationship, and the significance of these buildings within the Franciscan tradition. After the guide's exterior explanation, you'll have time to wander inside each church at your own pace, reading inscriptions and observing the art and architecture. The Porziuncola is notably small—a humble stone chapel housed within a much larger basilica. The pace is leisurely; this is a contemplative rather than rushed experience.

Dress code is strictly enforced: shoulders and knees must be covered for entry. On Sundays and major Catholic holidays, internal guidance is unavailable; the guide explains outside only. From mid-February to early April 2026, St. Francis Basilica tours suspend due to the exposition of relics. Suitable for all fitness levels. Tips are not included.
