What to expect

You'll be in the saddle most of the day, starting early from Ubud with a gradual climb through farmland and forest. The riding mixes gentle valley tracks with steeper, narrower sections as you gain altitude. Expect dust, roots, and rocks underfoot. A mid-morning coffee break provides relief and a chance to soak in the plantation views. Lunch at the crater rim gives you time to rest and take in the scale of the landscape. The afternoon descent is more technical—tighter trails, sharper turns, more focus required. Your guide watches the group's pace and can pivot the route if someone needs easier sections or wants to push harder.

Good to know

You'll need basic bike-riding confidence to enjoy this; experience with dirt bikes helps but isn't essential. Wear closed shoes with good grip. Bring sun protection and pack extra water beyond what's provided. The volcanic terrain is rough on bikes and lungs alike, so pace yourself. Guides carry tools for mechanical issues, but the ride does last roughly eight hours door-to-door.
