What to expect

You'll start from Cat Ba town and hike inland through thick subtropical forest with your guide, keeping eyes peeled for native fauna. The trail descends toward Viet Hai village where local families still fish and farm as they have for generations—you'll see houses on stilts, small plots, daily routines. After lunch, a boat collects you from the village jetty and motors back across the bay, giving legs a rest while you absorb views of limestone cliffs and mangrove fringes. Pace is moderate to brisk; you're covering roughly 12km on foot over uneven terrain.

Good to know

Bring sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, and insect repellent. The trail can be muddy after rain. Not suitable for people with spine, heart, or joint issues, or during pregnancy. Moderate fitness required. Hotel pickups in Cat Ba included; Hanoi departures add a 2-hour bus ride each way.
