What to expect

You'll start with a 20-minute escape from Hanoi's streets into quieter roads lined with working farms and hamlets. A couple of stops at older pagodas break up the 65km drive northbound. Once in Ba Ví, the jeep handles a steep climb through thick forest to the summit. The air cools noticeably as you gain height. A guide walks you a loop trail around the top, pointing out the old French church and the city sprawling far below on clear days. The terrain is grassy and well-trodden; pace is unhurried.
