After a guided introduction to the tradition's history, training, and daily rituals, you'll watch an authentic dance performance accompanied by live music and storytelling. The session finishes with direct conversation, photographs, and time to ask questions—a rare chance to move beyond the mystique and hear firsthand accounts from someone actively practising this centuries-old craft.

What to expect

The session opens with a 15–20 minute talk covering the maiko's role, what daily training involves, behavioural codes, and how the art form has evolved. You'll then settle in for a 10–15 minute dance, performed live with explanation of its story and symbolic movements. The remainder is unhurried conversation: ask what you want to know, take photos, and observe the detail in costume, posture, and expression up close. English-speaking staff guide the experience throughout.

Good to know

Bring a camera if you want quality photos. The venue is accessible by public transport. Infants must sit on an adult's lap; prams are permitted. Not suitable if you have spinal injuries or are pregnant. No refreshments included, though venues nearby serve tea and coffee.
