About this tour

Spend two-and-a-half hours in Kyoto dressed in authentic silk kimono while learning the fundamentals of Japanese tea ceremony. After selecting your garment and receiving basic styling, you'll participate in a guided tea session where a practitioner demonstrates matcha preparation and serves traditional sweets. You'll then have the afternoon free to wander the local streets in full dress until early evening, experiencing how locals moved through their day in traditional wear.

What to expect

Arrival begins with selecting your kimono from available styles, followed by dressing assistance and simple hairstyling—budget 60–90 minutes for this. You'll then move into a dedicated tea room where you'll observe and participate in a structured tea ceremony. Your host will explain the philosophy behind each movement whilst preparing matcha. The formal session lasts roughly an hour. Afterwards, you're free to walk around the Okada area and nearby districts still dressed in your kimono, giving you a genuine feel for how the garment moves and functions in everyday spaces.

Good to know

Comfortable footwear matters since you'll be walking in kimono; slip-on shoes are easiest for removal indoors. The experience isn't suitable for pregnant travellers. Prams and strollers are welcome for infants. Public transport is nearby if you want to venture further afield.
