What to expect

You'll arrive at the atelier and meet your instructor, who'll assess what draws you to this work. The session begins with fundamentals: how to hold a pencil, basic proportion, and the observation techniques Renaissance masters used. You'll complete several short studies before moving into longer pieces. The instructor circulates, offering feedback and demonstrations. There's no pressure to produce a finished artwork—the focus is understanding process. You'll have breaks built in, with refreshments available. By the end, you'll have several drawings on paper and a tangible sense of how differently you can see.

Book ahead; sessions fill quickly. The studio is near public transport. Times typically available 10am–1pm, 2–5pm, or 5:30–8:30pm. Bring comfortable clothes you don't mind getting marked. All materials provided. Prams welcome; infants sit with an adult. Service animals permitted.
