What to expect

Expect an early pre-dawn wake-up and several hours of driving from your Bali hotel to the ferry port, plus the sea crossing to Java. Once on the mainland, you'll pass through scenic stops—lake vistas and waterfalls—before reaching the mountain village where your guide briefs you on the climb ahead. The trek itself is steep and takes 1.5–2 hours uphill in darkness; the volcano's sulphur fires create an otherworldly glow as you approach the crater rim. After watching sunrise, you'll trek back down (another 1–1.5 hours) and share a meal at a local warung before the long return journey to Bali, arriving late afternoon or evening.
