About this tour
Spend two hours at a working pottery studio in Osaka learning to hand-throw ceramics with an English-speaking instructor trained in both Japanese and Catalan traditions. You'll choose what to make—a sake set, tea bowl, or sushi dish with chopsticks rest—whilst discussing Japanese food culture and craftsmanship. The studio occupies a century-old timber-and-earth house, a rare surviving example of pre-war Osaka domestic architecture. Take your finished piece home the same day, glazed and fired.
Highlights

- Choose your project: sake set, tea bowl, or sushi dish
- Finished piece fires and leaves with you same day
- Studio set in authentic 1920s Osaka wooden house
- Small group only—maximum five participants

What to expect
You'll arrive at a charming old wooden house and meet your instructor, who'll show you the basics of centring clay and raising walls on the wheel. Don't expect perfection—the point is getting your hands wet and understanding the craft. Expect some mess, a lot of concentration, and genuine surprise when your wonky bowl actually holds together. The instructor will chat about Japanese pottery history, dining customs, and the philosophy behind handmade tableware. Your piece goes into the kiln that day; you'll collect it before leaving.
Good to know
Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on. The studio is a five-minute walk from public transport. Children in prams are fine; small kids can sit with an adult. The firing fee and all materials are included in the price, but shipping home costs extra if you can't carry it.
