About this tour

When Tom from our team ran this 12-hour wine and food loop south of the border, we found a smartly paced intro to Valle de Guadalupe's boutique cellar scene. You start with coastal tacos in Rosarito, then move through three smaller wineries tasting reds, whites, and rosé alongside a generous lunch built from local produce. The private van keeps you cushioned between stops with cold beer and water, and the whole thing reads like a mate with good taste showing you around rather than a cattle-run operation. Saturdays mainly, starting around 8:30 AM.

Highlights

  • Fresh Baja tacos at a family-run Rosarito kitchen, not a tourist trap
  • Three separate tastings across boutique wineries, 10–12 pours total
  • Lunch at the second winery: shareable plates with local ingredients, veg options solid
  • Private van with cold beer and water between stops—no scorching in traffic
  • Coastal views en route; genuine angle on the winemaking process
  • Guide knows the valley and its makers, not just reading a script
  • Group size stays small enough to feel personal, not rushed

What to expect

The day starts early—around 8:30 AM—with a drive down to Rosarito for tacos and a drink before heading inland to the wineries. By mid-morning you're at the first cellar, getting a proper walk-through of how they work and tasting a few wines. The second winery is where you sit down to lunch; the plates come out tapas-style, so you're grazing and chatting rather than ploughing through a set menu. The third stop gives you another set of tastings and more time to either buy a bottle or just soak in the vineyard views. Between venues the van is your refuge—cold, quiet, stocked—so you're not sweating through the journey. By 7 PM you're back where you started. The pacing feels genuine; they're not rushing you through five wineries in a day.

What impressed us was the lack of that 'check off the box' vibe. The guide actually engages with what's happening at each place, and the lunch isn't some mass-produced spread. If you're someone who enjoys wine but doesn't need to be lectured for hours, this hits the middle ground well.

Good to know

The good

This works brilliantly if you want a curated day without the rigmarole of a massive group tour. The all-inclusive model means no surprise bills (though tips are appreciated, not baked in). The van comfort and cold beer are real perks on a full day. Vegetarian and vegan options at lunch mean most diets are covered. Coastal drive is genuinely pretty.

The not-so-good

It needs a minimum of six people to run, so if numbers drop you might be rescheduled or refunded—book early if you're flexible on dates. It's not recommended if you have spinal issues, are pregnant, or have cardiovascular concerns (the driving and walking can be steady). It's a 12-hour day, so pace yourself at the tastings or you'll hit a wall. Saturdays are peak; mid-week may give you a quieter experience if available. Gratuities aren't included, so budget for that. Bring sunscreen and a hat if you're sensible; the vineyard stops have some exposure. The minimum group size means it's not suited to solo travellers unless you're happy joining strangers—which, honestly, tends to work out fine on these things.
