About this tour

Descend into Hang Pygmy, the world's fourth-largest cave system, on this 2-day, 1-night expedition in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. You'll abseil into the cavern's depths, scramble through 3.5km of Hang Over passage, swim underground rivers, and camp within the park's wilderness. All gear, meals, and expert guides are included—suited to any fitness level.

Highlights

  • Abseil into Hang Pygmy's immense chambers
  • Scramble and navigate 3.5km through Hang Over passage
  • Underground swimming in pristine cave rivers
  • Camp overnight in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
  • Climb out using rope and ascender techniques

What to expect

Day one involves transport to the cave entrance, a guided trek into Hang Over where you'll scramble over boulders and wade through sections, then abseil into Hang Pygmy's yawning mouth. You'll explore the cavern floor, swim in underground pools, and make camp inside the park at dusk. Day two reverses the route—swimming and scrambling back through Hang Over before ascending from Pygmy on ropes. Meals are provided, and all climbing equipment (helmet, harness, headlamp, life jacket) is supplied. The work is physical but achievable; guides manage pace.

Good to know

Bring a change of clothes and personal toiletries; you'll get wet. The cave stays cool year-round. Transport from Phong Nha town is included, but transfers from outside the area are not. Tips for guides and porters are customary. No prior climbing experience needed.
