About this tour
Trade the groomed runs for untracked snow deep in Daisetsuzan National Park, Japan's largest wilderness. This 4-hour snowshoe trek ventures where most tours don't—through silent forests blanketed in 2 metres of powder, where you'll spot wildlife trails and reach viewpoints accessible only on foot. Finish in a natural mountain hot spring to thaw your bones. Small groups (max 5) mean you move at your own pace with an English-speaking local guide.
Highlights
- Untouched powder forest walks in Daisetsuzan National Park
- Read fox and deer tracks through the snow
- Natural mountain onsen soak included (optional extra)
- Maximum 5 people per group, solo travellers welcome
- Morning or night tours with headlamp exploration available
- All snowshoe gear and thermal kit provided
What to expect
You'll start by gearing up—snowshoes, gloves, hat, thermal pants, and waterproof boot covers are all supplied. The guide leads you into forest that rarely sees boot prints. Expect peaceful stretches broken by stops to read animal signs and absorb the quiet. The terrain is gentle enough for all fitness levels, though you'll walk on snow for up to 30 minutes without breaks. If you pick the night tour, headlamps cut through darkness as you move through an even more surreal landscape. After the walk, head to the onsen (if booked) to soak in naturally heated mineral water—a proper reward.
Good to know
