What to expect

Day one covers confined water skills—breathing underwater, mask clearing, buoyancy control—in a controlled setting where you'll repeat drills until they're automatic. Days two and three shift to open water, typically shallow Thai reefs where you apply those techniques with an instructor watching closely. You'll do four open water dives total. Expect repetition and patience; the goal is genuine competence, not ticking boxes. Water conditions vary by season; your operator will brief you on visibility and current.

Good to know

Requires moderate fitness; poor heart health or pregnancy are contraindications. Bring basic swimming ability. Public transport reaches most dive shops. Book ahead during peak season. Seasickness is common—discuss prevention with instructors beforehand.
