This 2.5-hour workshop guides you through Shiodome, Ginza, and Yurakucho with a professional photographer, exploring how to use composition—leading lines, negative space, contrast—to tell stories within the city's concrete and steel environment. You'll develop techniques to make compelling images of the metropolis and the people inhabiting it.

What to expect

You'll start in Shiodome, a district dominated by towering glass facades, then move through Ginza's wide streets lined with architectural statements. The instructor will point out visual opportunities—a solitary figure dwarfed by a building, shadows cast across steel surfaces, pockets of greenery amid concrete. You'll practise framing shots that emphasise scale and isolation. The final stop is Tokyo International Forum, where you'll photograph inside its soaring geometric halls. Expect to walk steadily between locations and spend time waiting for light and pedestrians to align with your compositions.

Good to know

Bring a camera with manual settings. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for outdoor conditions. Public transport connects all three locations; budget for transit fares separately. The workshop involves sustained standing and walking, so it's not suitable for those with spinal issues, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnancy.
