What to expect
You'll arrive at a Tokyo dojo where an experienced instructor briefs you on samurai culture and combat philosophy. Next comes observation—watching the regular training cohort run through their drills with wooden and practice swords. Then you're handed a bokken (wooden sword) and learn foundational strikes and stances. Expect to work through basic cuts and footwork over thirty to forty minutes. The session wraps with a chance to photograph yourself with the samurai group, bokken in hand.
