About this tour
When Ben from our team booked this certified-only dive off Lahaina's coast, we were after turtles and sharks—and we got them both. This is a stripped-back operation: small groups, experienced instructors, all gear included, two hours in the water exploring reefs where white-tip sharks patrol and green sea turtles graze. Maui's year-round conditions mean clear visibility and warm water most days. It's straightforward, no frills, and works best if you've got your dive card current and haven't been out of the water too long.
Highlights
- Saw green sea turtles feeding within metres on nearly every dive
- White-tip reef sharks cruising the site—curious, not aggressive
- All scuba kit provided and well-maintained; no hire drama
- Small group sizes mean no crowded reefs or rushed decompression stops
- Instructors genuinely experienced with the Lahaina sites
- Crystal visibility and warm water make navigation and wildlife spotting easy
- Two-hour dives give you real bottom time, not a quick paddle
What to expect
The dive starts at the Lahaina shop where you'll show your certification card and sort your kit. Your instructor briefs the site and checks your weighting before you enter the water. The reef drops gradually; you're looking for turtles sheltering in coral and sharks on patrol. Visibility is usually 25+ metres, so spotting them isn't luck—they're genuinely common here. The pace is relaxed, your instructor points out detail (coral species, small reef fish) and watches the group. No rushing. You surface after two hours, rinse off, and that's it.
The Lahaina reefs have character—less crowded than some Maui sites, good mix of hard and soft coral, and the wildlife is reliable. Water temperature runs 24–26°C year-round, so a thin wetsuit works. If you're rusty on skills or haven't dived in months, mention it to the instructor beforehand—they'll be straight with you about whether to reschedule.
Good to know
This is honest scuba without tourist markup. You'll almost certainly see turtles and sharks. All gear is included so you don't hunt for rental elsewhere. Small groups mean your instructor actually knows your name and diving style. The water conditions are genuinely reliable.
You must be currently certified with recent dives logged—they won't train you here. You need moderate fitness and the strength to carry 30 pounds of kit on your back briefly. There's an 18-hour no-fly rule after diving, so plan your trip accordingly. Transport to the shop isn't included. The site isn't accessible to people with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or significant heart issues—they're clear about this. Bring your own water bottle; they have granola bars but food is minimal. Peak season (winter) can mean bookings fill quick. Budget for a tip if the dive goes well.
