About this tour
When Jake from our team got certified in Boracay, he spent four days learning to dive with WaterColors' PADI instructors in one of the world's best beach settings. The course covers everything from pool basics to open water dives, and you'll leave with a globally recognised certification card. Boracay itself is that rare tropical island that lives up to the hype — white sand, calm turquoise water, and a relaxed vibe even with the crowds. You're diving in the Philippines' signature clear waters, spotting reef life and getting genuinely comfortable underwater before heading out to deeper sites.

What to expect
The course splits across four days: expect classroom or confined water work early on, then graduated open water dives as your confidence builds. Jake found the pacing manageable — instructors kept groups small, which meant plenty of one-on-one attention and no rushing through safety checks. You'll head out by boat each day to dive sites around Boracay; the water's calm and warm, visibility is usually solid, and you're never far from support.
The island itself buzzes with tourists, especially shoulder seasons, but the dive operation runs smoothly and feels professional. You'll be in the water most of the day, so bring sunscreen and a rashguard. The real surprise is how quickly underwater navigation and buoyancy control click — by day three, you're genuinely diving, not just bobbing about.
Good to know
PADI certification is the gold standard and opens doors to dive shops worldwide. WaterColors sticks to safety protocols, instructors are experienced, and Boracay's warm, clear water beats murky lakes for learning. Suits anyone aged 10 and up in reasonable health; even anxious swimmers tend to get comfortable. The all-in gear means no rental hassles elsewhere.
Boracay can get crowded and touristy — expect other travellers, especially April to September. You'll be out on the water for hours each day, so sun exposure and seasickness potential are real. Food and drinks aren't included, so budget for meals. Souvenir photos cost extra. You can't dive within 24 hours of flying, which rules out diving the day you arrive if flying in. You must provide your height and weight upfront, complete a medical form before arrival, and bring a signed form and possibly a doctor's sign-off if you've had health issues. Not suitable if pregnant or if you have cardiovascular concerns.
