What to expect

Arrival begins with costume fitting—loose trousers, tunic, and protective gear that feel surprisingly natural once on. You'll meet your horse in a paddock setting, spend 20 minutes learning seat and basic commands, then move to a small practice ground. The instructors teach arrow nocking and release mechanics while walking, then at trotting pace. By the halfway mark, you're riding toward targets. The Shinto shrine itself is peaceful; you'll ride through its grounds, taking shots at wooden targets set at intervals. Wind and horse movement add real challenge. It's not theatrical—your arms will feel the work, your legs will grip, and misses happen. Hits land with satisfying thunk.

Good to know

Weight limit is 90 kg for safety with smaller horse breeds. Wear trousers and closed shoes. No prior riding or archery needed. Public transport nearby if you need it. Prams and service animals welcome. Open year-round, so check weather and dress accordingly.
