Ghana is West Africa's most straightforward entry point—stable, English-speaking, and genuinely welcoming. You'll navigate Cape Coast's slave-trade museums with heavy heart, haggle in Accra's sprawling markets, and eat some of the best jollof rice you've had anywhere. The infrastructure is basic but functional; getting around doesn't require a fixer.
The coast offers sand, seafood, and reggae bars. Inland, there's rainforest around Kakum and the culture of the Ashanti region centred on Kumasi. Most travellers spend 1–3 weeks moving between a handful of towns rather than attempting epic overland treks.
It's not Instagram-perfect and that's the point. You'll see real working port towns, colonial forts that aren't theme parks, and locals who treat tourism as commerce, not spectacle.
