Bird Paradise sits within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve precinct in northern Singapore, a short ride from the city on the 927 bus or via the Mandai Khatib Shuttle from Khatib MRT. Relocated from its original Jurong site and reopened in 2023, the park covers 20 hectares and holds roughly 3,500 birds across more than 400 species — the largest collection of its kind in Asia.

The redesigned layout feels genuinely immersive: wide planted walkways wind through eight themed walk-in aviaries, and the tropical landscaping means you are rarely standing on bare concrete staring through glass.

The flamingo lagoon near the entrance makes an immediate impression, with hundreds of birds wading in shallow water at eye level. The Heart of Africa aviary is a highlight — a tall, humid structure housing hornbills, African crowned cranes, and a range of weavers that dart between feeding stations overhead.

Pelican Cove offers underwater viewing panels, while the free-flight Crimson Wetlands zone is one of the better examples of open-aviary design you will find anywhere in the region. Conservation credentials are solid: the park runs active breeding programmes for endangered species including the Bali myna and several Southeast Asian hornbill species.

Crowds build noticeably on weekends and school holidays, particularly around the penguin air-conditioned zone and the parrot feeding areas in the late morning. The heat is serious — Singapore humidity makes a 20-hectare walk feel considerably longer than it sounds, so start early. Most visitors comfortably see the park in a half-day; a full day lets you catch feeding sessions and shows. Arrive by 9 a. m.

on weekdays and wear light, breathable clothing.
