Dive-first Caribbean with reef depth and jaguar-haunted jungles inland

Honduras punches above its weight for reef diving and snorkeling. The Bay Islands—Roatán, Utila, and Guanaja—sit atop the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-longest in the world. Visibility is consistent, sea life abundant, and dive certifications cheap. The mainland offers dense rainforest, Mayan ruins, and a less-touristed Caribbean coast than neighbours.
It's not a polished destination. Infrastructure varies wildly; roads inland are rough; petty theft happens in cities. But that's partly why it works: prices stay low, and you're not shuffling through tour-group crowds. Come for the reefs, stay for the coffee plantations, cloud forests, and surprisingly good food.
Most travellers base themselves on the Bay Islands for diving and beach time, then either fly home or venture to the mainland for hiking and ruins. The wet season (May–Nov) brings rain and choppier seas, but cheaper rooms and fewer tourists.
