Walt Disney World® Resort
Orlando, USAnature
Walt Disney World Resort is enormous — far larger than most first-time visitors expect. Spread across nearly 25,000 acres in central Florida, it contains four distinct theme parks, two water parks, and a sprawling entertainment district called Disney Springs. Magic Kingdom is the emotional centrepiece, with Cinderella Castle rising above Main Street, U.S.A. in a way that genuinely stops you in your tracks regardless of age. EPCOT leans more intellectual, blending science, technology, and a beloved international pavilion circuit around the World Showcase lagoon. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom round out the four, offering everything from Star Wars immersion at Galaxy's Edge to surprisingly moving encounters with African wildlife on the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride.
The scale is both the magic and the challenge. Walking between lands within a single park can cover several kilometres, and doing all four parks in a week still feels rushed. Crowds are relentless year-round, though late January through early February and mid-September through early November are genuinely quieter windows. The Lightning Lane system has replaced the old FastPass, allowing you to pay to skip queues — worth budgeting for if your time is short.
Getting here is straightforward from Orlando International Airport via Disney's complimentary Magical Express replacement services or a rideshare. Parking at the parks adds a daily fee, so staying on-site has practical advantages beyond the novelty. Florida's heat and afternoon thunderstorms are no joke — light breathable clothing, a small poncho, and comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable from May through September.
Book park tickets and dining reservations weeks ahead, and arrive at rope drop if you want to experience the most popular attractions without a two-hour queue.
